I had a pine siskin in the fall that seemed ill. I started hearing of others in IL and WI having similar occurences. This was posted on the WI birding site:

The siskins I took to the USGS Wildlife Health lab showed salmonella.
All the birds were juveniles. I have been
hearing about this from many others, so be sure to keep feeders clean
and clean up droppings below feeders.
Use disposable gloves and don't wash feeders anywhere near you handle food

A good annual public service announcement/reminder, since salmonella is a common occurance in birds (and reptiles, too). Hence why you're supposed to cook eggs thoroughly.
