Another recommendation by rangersven.  This book, by Ted Kerasote (of Merle’s Door, and Pukka books) is about a canoe trip he takes with a friend, in northern Canada. I love stories of canoeing in the Canadian barrens, and this was a good one.  A bit of a different perspective, as Kerasote’s friend takes and uses a Satellite phone, and e-book devices, and in a way, this keeps Kerasote connected with the busy world back home, and he loses that “I’m out here and depending on just my skills and decisions and rescue is a long way off” feeling, even though Kerasote only uses the phone a couple of times.  I liked the passages about the quiet he finds, and their smart decisions on running rapids, or portaging around them.  Anyway, I enjoyed it, and thanks again for another good recommendation, rangersven.

I've read this book several times and always enjoyed it.  It's an easy read, too; and it's easy to see why it won a National Outdoor Book Award...

Happy Birthday,

RS
