My "break after the ultra" has turned into "my lazy butt doesn't want to do cardio."  Please shame me into running!

Hopefully, sooner rather than later, you'll realize that if you don't enjoy it then it ain't worth doing.

Try another form of exercise if running has lost its appeal for you.

Not sure I want to shame you.  I came back like a ball of fire (well, sort of limp fire) after my first 1/2 marathon, and triggered the injuries that have reduced my running to a trickle ever since.  If your body doesn't want to run, maybe you're still rebuilding?  Go ride a bike, or go for a swim.

This all day.  Try another cardio for a while until you feel like running again.  Your knees could probably use some downtime anyway.

My knee is so bad at this point, I can't run, hit the elliptical or even do a 3 mile walk.  So cardio is out for now.  Going to the dr to see if anything can be done.  SO BE THANKFULL!

You missed all this nice weather. Today it is high of 35, maybe that will get you going.  I have been similar. Both shoulders have been hurting, my legs have been sore, and a 3 mile walk hurts the knees. The knees stiffen and hurt if I don't walk too. I decided to quit lifting till the shoulders feel better and back off on leg work. I did nothing the last three days. Legs feel better and shoulders are improving. Even though I think it is laziness sometimes our bodies know what we need. I have started to listen when my body just doesn't feel like a workout. Maybe I would have had a few less overuse injuries if I would have listened better years ago. I think there are some suggestions in runners world or somewhere about the number of days you should rest after racing a certain number of miles.  It gets harder all the time to find the balance with strength and cardio and keeping fit and not hurting something.  Good luck.

OnO, I wonder if they have age-adjusted formulae for that?  I'm pretty sure if I'd been 20 instead of 40 when I ran that race, I'd've had no trouble with the too-rapid comeback.

5 mile hard, hilly run today.  Guess this "worked." :p

Good for you!  Don't overdo, though, until you're fully recovered.
