I have to admit, it took several years of backpacking before I tried it. I just didn't see the reasoning behind it. I always had gone solo or with a guy friend, one in particular who was a childhood friend. I wasn't afraid to hike with women, just didn't have the interest to. I enjoy my peace and have a playful nature and most the girls I had dayhiked with were all about proving how macho they were. Bleh. Who needs that?
Several backpacking lady friends (and a wife) later, I find my younger self was incorrect. Oh, the macho-I-have-to-show-you-what-you-are-doing-wrong types are still are out there. They just aren't my friends and I can pick them out before stepping foot on the trail with them.
So, what are some benefits to backpacking with women? Well, besides the obvious warm snuggles if one happens to be your woman.

Well, my husband mutters something about liking to hike behind me because the view is better, or something like that. . . of course, I say the same, so we play a little game of who can go slower, which keeps him from hiking too fast and wearing himself out, leaving him still fresh in camp. Of course, even when he's not fresh he's willing to get fresh. . .
So that's the advantage for him of hiking with women. Now I think about it, there aren't as many advantages for me to hiking with women. . . .

Gosh RanD, if Ladyblade hadn't helped you with this post I'd be setting you up with some of the great young women I know! Darn, why can't men more like women? Thunk (hand hitting frontal lobe). Genetic deficit of course!
I'll give you a break since you are a transplanted Southern Gentleman from California. In time you might be able to keep up with us, but for now ... we'll be watching out for you. We have friends with Newting Powers that can help in extreme circumstances, but we don't normally call on help from our sisters across the Mason-Dixon Line since we have our own magic here in the South. Tread lightly and carry high quality chocolate! ;-)

In all seriousness though. I would love to find a woman that could keep up with me backpacking. Or really anything sports related. But, I mean it is just genetics I guess. And if I did find that woman I suspect she would have a mustache. Y'all are good at stuff too. Like cleaning and watching the kids while men work to support the family. Some of y'all even cook good. Maybe I will switch teams and start dating guys. The gay guys I know are really fit. Oh and you gals smell nice. I like that.
