Just saw this in a Yahoo Group.  I'm surprised this is the first time I've heard of Trail Dames

QUOTE
One of the wonderful things about hiking these days is the abundance of
women in the outdoors. To celebrate this, the Trail Dames have created
The Summit-a hiking and backpacking conference for women. Last year,
the Trail Dames hosted the first Summit, billing it as the nation's
only hiking and backpacking conference for women. It was a grand
success and this year the Summit is coming to Durango, Colorado.
The Summit is an opportunity for all women to come together and learn,
dream and share the beauty of the outdoors. For three days, Fort Lewis
College will play home to seminars, demonstrations, classes and special
guest speakers, all designed to celebrate women on the trails.
The conference will feature guest speaker Sanne Larsen Bagby, aka
`Ready", a triple crowner with more than 10,000 miles of
backpacking to her name. The conference will also include an extensive
list of seminars, classes and a special screening of "Beauty beneath
the Dirt", a newly released documentary about three intrepid hikers
attempting one of the most challenging outdoor adventures in the
country. A Hikers Fair with gear demonstrations will be open for the
duration of the Summit, as well.
"Campfire Yoga", "Lightweight Backpacking", "In a
Woman's Voice-writing for the outdoor woman", "Hiking the El
Camino" and "Women's Nutrition for Hiking" are some of
the clinics that will be offered. In addition to the conference, the
Durango area offers a myriad of fabulous things to do from hiking and
backpacking to river rafting. The city it a short drive from the Four
Corners area and is adjacent to the San Juan National Forest and the
Animas River Valley. To cap off a fun holiday, our friends at Step
Outdoors Colorado are offering multi-day backpacking trips for Summit
attendees both before and after the Summit.
For more information or to register for the Summit, go to

Anyway, the summit sounds interesting...

(After further research, apparently Trail Dames is a "hiking club for curvy women")

So flat-chested women need not apply?  Too bad, I really like Durango.   :p

Fine, Ponderosa.  We can organize our own summit.

Though I'm still waiting to qualify for the Old Broads Hiking Club.  Getting closer every year. . .

Meanwhile, where shall we hold our summit?  I suggest on a peak somewhere. . . .

Quite right.  I think we should be ironic and hold the Summit for Flat-Chested Trail Dames somewhere in the Tetons.  In fact, let's do the Crest trail, and pick some likely peak along the way.  Teewinot or Mt Owens should do nicely.

I am so in on this one!  (though maybe not as flat as I once was, I think I can qualify).

Hi Ladies!!! I am a year late, but I just saw your posts!  :) Just wanted to let you know that Trail Dames is for all women, regardless of size, and definitely regardless of bust size!! :) :)  I started the group as a place for overweight women to get out and hike and backpack, but it has long since come to include all women!!  Durango was awesome and I am sorry I didn't see this earlier to invite you to come over and say hello!!!  This July we are doing it again in Maryville, TN if you are in the area!  :) Thanks so much and hope to see you on the trail sometime!

Hey, welcome.  Great screen name, too (my auto-correct made it "scree name," which is also good :) ).

Since we haven't yet had our flat-chested Teton Summit, maybe some of us will check it out. (Not me. I'm on the left coast).

MudButt is a good name? I guess that DEPENDS on what you're alluding to.

Fort Lewis is an awesome place. Hope those of you able to hike Ice Lakes ; its pretty darn special. Lots of other great places around the great town. Don't forget the wildness North of Pagosa.

Given my over indulgences of the winter I think I am going to start a club myself, Backpacking Bastages with Bellies.

Have a great time ladies but don't choose the wrong brews at Steamworks or you'll be taking your clothes off and dancing on tables and falling to that floor filled with peanut shells before you know it.
