Didn't want to clutter up your trip report, parts I and II are outstanding.  Your pictures are breathtaking.

Thanks, Chuck D! I was beginning to think no one even reads the Storytelling forum anymore. :D

By the way, I still have 3 more parts to go, before the trip report is done, but processing the photos and writing up the reports is quite time consuming. I think it might be a week before it's finished. Feel free to add comments here or even in the TR.

Thanks guys. Part III took a lot of effort to put up; I think I need a day or two to rest up before tackling Part IV, another biggie...

Part III is well worth the effort you put into it, your commentary is great and once again your pictures are the best.

Agreed - fabulous TR so far.  I seldom read lots of writing, preferring just to look at pictures, but the writing is also fabulous and highly recommended.  I'm looking forward to the rest!

Thanks guys!

GBH, I've read that the closest type of glaciers to the Baltoro are those in Alaska, so you'd be quite at home there. Another interesting thing about the Baltoro is that until recently, unlike other glaciers in the world, it didn't seem to be showing a measurable reduction in size. The speculation was that all the rock on the surface was slowing melting.

Part-4 is now up.

You might be interested in a recent journal article submitted to "The Cryosphere" about that in particular.  Even if you're not interested in the paper itself, the summary in the abstract is worth a read.  It's a small paper (only one author), but does give some overview with predictive climate modeling on the glaciers in that region.

Climate change implications for the glaciers of the Hindu-Kush, Karakoram and Himalayan region

A. J. Wiltshire
Met Office Hadley Centre, Exeter, Devon, EX1 3PB, UK

(It's also worth noting that this is just a "Discussion" paper so far, submitted but not yet fully accepted, which may undergo some revisions before being finally published.  Still, I just thought I'd share.)

Thanks for the interesting link, GBH.

Chuck D, Part-IV was pretty much the climax of the trip. The whole thing led up to it. I'm afraid that the return journey (Part-V) won't be as interesting, but I should have a few nice photos still up my sleep. :)
