I have my sons hiking shoes, Keens, size 13 that no longer fit him. He wore them on 2 or 3 hikes for maybe 5 or 6 miles each time. These are practicaly brand new..a little scuffed but nothing to fear. The color is a brownish gray. No laces to tie..its the elastic pull cord. I am not selling them, I am giving them away to someone who needs them. I just ask for maybe up to $10 to pay shipping costs. great shoes for hiking, great condition and a steal for the price!!!

That's why my kids have done all their hiking in the same tennis shoes they wear to school  :)

Yes. I believe it. I don't mind buying them the shoes, even if it is for 1 year, 2 or 3 trips. I just hate the thought of getting rid of them. I would rather pass them on to someone who can use them hiking..though I will not throw them out, if no one is interested they will go in the cloths bag and be donated.

Now my boys are bigger and carrying more weight I've suggested they at least get trail shoes, but they say they've always been fine in their sneakers, and they are nice and lights, so why change?  Gads, those boys of mine hate change!

look at it this way, they are saving you some money, lol. That's always a plus. Though, I'm sure what money you may save from shoes will surely be spent on other needs...so goes the cycle, at least for me. And I'm not talking about just backpacking gear, I'm speaking of life in general...
