So we just came back from a 2 mile out and 2 mile back over night with the family (our first one!). Me, husband, our 3 year old daughter, our 3 month old son, and our 5 year old black lab. We had a great time and learned a lot about what motivates a 3 year old to keep walking.... food, singing, counting, and the promise of a special surprise (M&Ms) when we got back to the car.

Dad had to carry our daughter on his shoulders a few times. I front carried the baby and had the dog. We all slept pretty well in a 3 man tent with temperatures dipping to 42 degrees. Mac and cheese was a winner for dinner, as were bagels this morning. (We also had bacon and oatmeal respectively as adults). Teaching a 3 year old to go potty in the woods was fairly easy and so was changing diapers and packing them out (thanks dog!). Nursing, as always, was the easiest.

We will hopefully get out again one more night before the baby gets to big to carry, or it gets too warm. Here are a few pictures:

Great!  Glad you had a good time, and some very cute pictures resulted!

First time ours had to hike the two miles each way the younger was just her age.  It took 4 hours on the way in (less coming out; it was a 1000' climb--I guess you don't have to worry about elevation gain or altitude in Florida!).  We didn't have the option of carrying anyone--neither of us is tough enough to put a 20 or 30-lb toddler on our shoulders while also carrying a large pack.

Later we learned to take turns walking at little-kid speed, so we wouldn't spend so long carrying our packs.

Just something priceless about babies sleeping in tents :)

Great to hear that you all had a good time. I love camping with kids... for the most part, hahaha!

Good for you and your family. Keep taking those kids out. One of the best things you can do for children...and adults for that matter.  Looks like you all had fun. Thanks for sharing.
